Saying Goodbye to Tom Anstey

Posted by worldorphanrelief on January 24, 2015

It has been a sad week here at The Fishermen.  We had to say goodbye to one of our own, Tom Anstey.  Tom was a silent supporter of our work and was one of the first to volunteer for difficult missions abroad.  He also was a major supporter of our landmine awareness initiative and helped establish our publication in Afghanistan.  The book he helped us promote is now a part of both the Afghan and Ukrainian public education system.  Tom lives on in the hundreds, if not thousands, of lives he will have helped us save in both countries.

Tom was killed early Monday morning when a drunk driver collided with his motorcycle in Raleigh, NC.  He died on the scene due to his injuries.  Farewell, my good friend.  You will be missed by all.

Welcome to The Fishermen, Angela!

Posted by worldorphanrelief on January 3, 2015

The Fishermen welcome Angela Lipari as our newest staff member.  Angela is a pediatric nurse whom has worked many years in both acute and intensive care. Now retired, it brings her great joy to work with women and children in impoverished areas and under extreme conditions, both domestic and abroad to improve their lives and spirits. Whether it’s medical, educational, or spiritual her experience and training will be beneficial to those in need. She is the mother to six amazing children and mimi to six wonderful grandchildren. All of whom have and keep teaching her the beauty of life.  Ms. Lipari is a most welcome addition for any of our upcoming overseas medical missions.

Urgent Request for Assistance

Posted by worldorphanrelief on January 2, 2015

With the help of Abby Kalainikas, Richard Wilson, and the parishioners of Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church of Leesville, MD, we have collected a full 40 ft container’s worth of medical and other humanitarian aid for the Standing Rock Lakota Sioux reservation in North Dakota.  This material is greatly needed by the people.  Lives will be saved.  We must raise $3800 for truck rental, fuel, and a one-way ticket home OR find someone whom is willing to pick up our material and deliver it to the people of Standing Rock.  If you are able to assist please call us IMMEDIATELY:  919-452-2405.

Ukraine Orphanage Construction Resuming

Posted by worldorphanrelief on January 2, 2015

I communicated with our orphanage contact about reconstruction when spring arrives. She notified me that interior work will continue throughout the winter so we can assist at any time.

My Lakota/Dakota team is capable and willing so I am resuming preparations to transport my team to Slavyansk so that we can provide the children with a happy, functioning home through the harsh Ukrainian winter. I will keep you posted as things progress. If all goes well I will assist with reconstruction as well as help with mine risk education efforts.

This mission will not proceed until the supplies we have collected for Standing Rock have been successfully delivered. I feel very strongly about this.

PS: the Sails of Hope orphanage in Slavyansk no longer looks like the below photo – it is in rather good shape!
