We wish to take a moment to thank the men and women of the US Armed Forces, North Carolina National Guard, and NATO for assisting us with our mission to provide aid to the orphaned children of the world.  Fishermen operations have mostly been stateside, but your assistance has made the impact of our ventures much more significant.  It has been an honor to have you work with us and we look forward to any opportunity to return the favor.

Both Joanna and Meghan worked tirelessly for the past year in order to present this vital information to the world in a concise and comprehensive format.  Their effort will undoubtedly help many abused children receive the help and safety they need. “A.C.T.” will be available on our website shortly.  Great work, Joanna and Meghan!

Hygiene Supply Shipment Being Prepared for Standing Rock Indian Reservation

Posted by worldorphanrelief on October 26, 2013

A 15 0041
I wish to thank Richard Wilson and the parishioners of Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church of Leeland, MD, for their generous donation of hygiene supplies for the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation of North and South Dakota.  Thus far over 160 pounds of material have been provided and more will follow.  The first box of hygiene supplies is scheduled to be shipped within the next two weeks and the remainder hand delivered when winter breaks.
My brother and I were adopted by the Bravebull family – descendants of Sitting Bull – in 1996 and maintain constant contact with our brothers and sisters on the reservation.   As a point of historical reference, the Sioux defeated Custer at the battle of Little Bighorn in 1876 and whose women and children were massacred by US soldiers at Wounded Knee Creek in 1890.  We are proud supporters of the great Dakota/Lakota Standing Rock tribe and jump at any opportunity to help our people.  More can be read about Standing Rock at the following site:  http://www.standingrock.org
Thanks again, Richard and the wonderful people of Saint Barnabas!  Your generosity will not be forgotten!

During our annual meeting we had the opportunity to speak with John Woods of Upright Africa about our upcoming mission to the DR Congo.  Our initial plan was to accompany John to Bukavu and Kalemie in early November.  Due to medical reasons I had to postpone this trip.  A new mission is being scheduled for the first quarter of 2014, during which we will visit an orphanage in Bukavu as well as the Panzi hospital where we will provide care for rape victims of the ongoing conflict in eastern region of the DR Congo.  Keith McLaurin will accompany us and will produce paintings about his observations and insight on the state of the people and country.  Additionally, a film crew is being assembled so that we may produce a documentary to help raise awareness about the suffering of the people of north and south Kivu.  Further details will be provided as we get closer to our departure date.

Possible Adoption of Our “Do Not Touch” Landmine Awareness Book by UN in Afghanistan

Posted by worldorphanrelief on October 25, 2013

Alex 1

Exciting news from Afghanistan!  As you know, our “Do Not Touch” Landmine Awareness Teaching Aid/Coloring Book has been examined by the Mine Action Coordination Center for Afghanistan – a UN affiliate – and was field tested by an international committee for effectiveness and children’s ability to understand its contents.  The results of this field test are still being collated.  Of particular interest is that our book is being recommended for use by all UN field units operating within Afghanistan.  This is great news for our charity! It is our sincere hope that our little coloring book project will save the lives of many children in Afghanistan as well as elsewhere in the world where landmines/IEDs are of concern.  Many thanks to Sarah Gowen, Janine Bryant, MACCA, Colin King, Freydoun Naeymi-Rad, Dr. Wais Aria, Captain Pinson and all the men and women of the US Army’s 192nd EOD BN, and everyone who contributed photos to make this project possible.

We are happy to announce the completion of our Human Trafficking-Awareness brochure.  This pamphlet provides vital information on how to identify traffickers, their method of operation, and how to protect yourself from being ensnared by trafficking enterprises.

We will translate and distribute this life-saving data sheet to anti-slavery NGOs around the world for immediate distribution.  Copies will also be presented to the United Nations in hope that it will be adopted for use by relevant agencies.

We wish to thank Meghan Bridges Chewning for her work on this vital endeavor.  Undoubtedly, her effort will save many men, women, and children from becoming a part of the modern slave trade.  Great work, Meghan!
