Raleigh Girls Scouts’ Summer Camp Finale!

Posted by worldorphanrelief on July 30, 2010

We were so honored when the Raleigh Girl Scouts invited Alex and myself to speak to the girls about The Fishermen, who we are, what we do and why. Okay, I thoroughly admit that I may be biased, but I think Alex is a brilliant public speaker! In addition, the Girl Scouts hosted a week-long material donation drive, and for a concluding activity they packed and decorated shipping boxes to be mailed to orphanages around the world!

The result was a bustling whirlwind of activity, the finished product a medical relief inventory that can only be described as…adorable!

The counselors, of whom their were maybe 10-12, managed a group of 150+ girls without so much as breaking a sweat! Kudos!

It was our first time presenting to an audience together, and the first major presentation for The Fishermen. Despite both of us having some pretty angry butterflies desperately attempting to escape our stomachs prior to, we both walked away feeling the presentation and correlating activities went so well that we can’t wait for our next opportunity!

A big “oops!”: We forgot our camera! Fortunately, one of the camp counselors was kind enough to take these photographs of the girls constructing the care packages! Too cute! It was really rewarding to see how much and how quickly they became involved and invested in the idea of helping other children overseas.
